# Properties

> Define the custom values behind Lane's fields — statuses, tags, products, and roadmap stages — so they match how your team actually works.

Properties is where you shape the fields your records use across Lane, so statuses, tags, and stages reflect your own workflow rather than a generic default. Find it in **Settings → Properties**.

Each property is a tab with its own set of values you can add, rename, reorder, and colour.

## Status

The workflow statuses your records move through. [Feedback](/insights) and [Plans](/docs) each have their own set — feedback starts in Triage and moves through your review flow; Plans start Parked and move toward a shipped state.

Statuses do more than label things: your Plan statuses are what trigger [closing the loop](/close-the-feedback-loop) when work ships, and your feedback statuses are what the [private portal](/portal) maps its customer-facing labels to.

## Product

If you manage more than one product, define them here so incoming feedback can be attributed to the right one. (Distinct from [Product Areas](/product-areas), which map the parts *within* a product.)

## Tags

Free-form labels for categorizing feedback your own way — beyond product areas and status. Add the tags your team reaches for, and apply them manually or as a bulk default on [import](/import).

## Roadmap stage

The stages a Plan moves through on a delivery timeline — for example, Now, Next, and Later. Use them to organize Plans by horizon.

**Q: Where do I manage these?**\
A: **Settings → Properties** — one tab per property.

**Q: What's the difference between Product and Product Areas?**\
A: Product is for workspaces with more than one distinct product. [Product Areas](/product-areas) are the functional parts within your product (Onboarding, Billing…) and drive feedback routing.

**Q: Do feedback and Plans share statuses?**\
A: No — each has its own status set, so you can model discovery and delivery independently.
