The sidebar is the primary navigation area in Lane. It helps you move between core objects, saved views, and frequently used pages with minimal friction. This article explains what appears in the sidebar, how it is organized, and how you can customize it based on your workflow.

Default objects

By default, the sidebar includes the following objects:
  • Insights – Where incoming feedback and conversations are captured and analyzed.
  • Features – Used to manage opportunities and product features link them to insights and delivery work.
  • Roadmaps – Visualize and communicate planned work over time.
  • Objectives – Track goals and OKRs and connect them to customer-driven opportunities.
  • Customers – Manage customer accounts and see related insights, features, and objectives.
These objects form the core structure of Lane.

Space

Space contain all the views you create and save across different objects.
  • Every saved view automatically appears under the Spaces section.
  • Space is personal. Each user sees only their own saved views.
  • This allows every team member to organize Lane in a way that fits their role and workflow.
Space help you switch quickly between different perspectives without changing global settings.

Favorites

Just above Space, you’ll find Favorites.
  • Favorite any view to pin it here.
  • Favorites give you one-click access to the views you use most often.
  • This section is also personal and differs for each user.
At the very top of the sidebar, you’ll see a search bar.
  • Use it to quickly search and open saved views.
  • This is useful when you have many Spaces or Favorites and want fast access without scrolling.

Customizing the sidebar

You can customize the sidebar to show only what you need. Depending on your use case, you may want to focus on a smaller set of objects. For example:
  • If you mainly analyze feedback and opportunities, you might keep Insights, Features, and Customers visible.
  • If roadmapping or OKRs are not relevant for your workflow, you can hide those sections from the sidebar.

Objects that cannot be hidden

  • Insights
  • Customers
These objects are always visible, as they form the foundation of customer context in Lane.

How to hide sidebar items

To hide objects from the sidebar:
  1. Click your workspace name in the top-left corner.
  2. Go to Settings → Preferences.
  3. Disable the toggles for the objects you want to hide.

Important note

  • Hiding an object only removes it from the sidebar.
  • The object can still appear in filters, relationships, and detail views across the product.
  • No data or functionality is removed by hiding an item.

When to customize your sidebar

Customizing the sidebar is helpful when:
  • You want a cleaner navigation focused on your daily workflow.
  • You want faster access to only the most relevant sections.
By tailoring the sidebar, you reduce noise and make navigation more intentional.
